    Montane cloud forest. Quercus copeyensis, Q. seemannii. Gregarious. On soil.

  • Description

    Pileus 3-10 cm broad, convex to plano-convex, dry, subtomentose to matted subtomentose, dark violet brown (11F7-6-5 series), paler with age but still with some of those violet tints. Flesh is white, gets a pinkish brown tint, with pungent odor, and mild taste. Tubes adnate to depressed around stipe, white when young, pinkish flesh tinted with age staining light brown when exposed; pores grayish red (11D5-4) when young, becoming concolorous with tubes, and staining likewise <1/mm. Stipe 7-14 cm long, 10-15 mm broad, clavate, dry, strict or curved, reticulate at the apex, ±concolorous with pileus or sometimes with sordid yellow overlaying the purple brown tones at apex with age, frequently with olive brown colors at base of stipe with age and with handling, otherwise white at base; interior white solid, changing as in pileus.
