Rooted aquatic plant to 5m. Spadix white,
spathe cream, red at base.
Location: Along the east bank of the Wi-
nikina River, south of the Yaruara con-
fluence just north of the village of Morichi-
to in Delta Amacuro State, Venezuela.
Use: 1. Flower is wrapped in leaf of the
same species and suspended over the water
from a line and cane. Serves as bait to fish
for morocoto (Callosoma macropomus)\ 2.
Leaves are used to treat measles; the sap
from the stem is heated and extracted and
used to treat conjunctivitis, as well as wasp
and scoipion stings.
