Ammannia coccinea Rottb.
Family: Lythraceae
Arizona, Cochise County; San Pedro Riparian National Conservation Area,
St. David Cienega, just west of Upper San Pedro River, north end of wetland,
N 31° 50.837' , W 110° 12.844' 3700 ft. 1128 m.
Habitat: cienega (standing water about 15 cm), surrounded by mesquite
woodland.
Associated spp: Distichlis spicata, Cyperus odoratus, C. spectabilis, C.
niger, Panicum obtusum, Sporobolus wrightii, Prosopis velutina, Eleocharis
rostellata, Muhlenbergia asperifolia, Echinochloa crusgali, E. colona, Typha
sp., Heliomeris multiflora, Helianthus annuus, Shoenoplectus americanus,
Leptochloa fusca ssp. fascicularis, Letochloa viscida, Paspalum distichum,
Ammannia coccinea, Solanum rostratum.
Notes: Annual to 65 cm. Flowers rose-purple. Locally common but rare in
SPRNCA. Voucher for botanical inventory of San Pedro Riparian National
Conservation Area.
