A corn field occurs on Red Rock Reservoir property, which is owned by the
United States Army Corps of Engineers (this portion is managed by the Iowa
DNR). It is approximately 1.7 miles southeast of Hartford. There were heavy
spring rains and so corn did not grow in low areas within the field. This site is
on the Southern Iowa Drift Plain.
Ammannia coccinea is common in an open, shallow, mesic to somewhat dry
(at the surface) basin in a relatively level corn field. The petals are rose-purple.
Fruits are much more common on most plants than flowers. Ammannia
coccinea is associated with Bacopa rotundifolia and Heteranthera limosa.
