Elevation about 4100 feet. Appalachian Mountains; creek terrace, levels between gneissic rocky ridges. Wet clay and humus. Thickets of willow, Ericaceae, red maple at margin of hemlock/rhododendron forest; some areas meadow or marsh-like.Local fern in large colony in wet thicket near sphagnum meadow, fronds evergreen, most 0.5 meter long, in winter condition, most partly dry.
