Distribution
/£ P18562 This specimen is extremely interesting, falling somewhere around the poorly understood taxa known only from flowering material, Aphyllarum (from Mato Grosso) and Scaphispatha (from Bolivia, pssibly Ceara), eind Xanthosoma. This material has the broad and coherent styles of Xanthosoma, supposedly characteristic of that genus. However, it is surprising to see it flower without leaves. There seem to be two anatropous ovules in each of two libaules which suggests Scaphispatha (presumed misplaced in Aroideae) rather than Aphyllarum S. Moore. For the moment I suggest this material be handled as Aphyllarum tuberosum S. Moore. Dan H. Nicolson Sept. 1976 Cj 03779975
