Dear Sir:-
I thank you for your esteemed favor of the 5th inst. As
requested, I am sending you today by express a box containing a number
of the hyacinth bulbs, same species as that sent you early in January
in flower. These hyacinths are quite common here and thoroughly
naturalized. They are very free flowering, producing long stems, and
producing a profusion of blossoms around Christmas and early January.
k In the latter part of last year I sent Mr. Wilson herbarium
specimens as also bulbs of an Atamosco native or naturalized here, which
I thought was Atamosco Simpsonii (Chapman) Greene. Small’s Plora, 289.
I have placed in the box of hyacinths a number of this same species of
Atamosco. I have noticed that some years the Atamosco flowers are
pink and another year they are white, but have not yet ascertained
whether the same bulb produces flowers alternating in color.
I have also placed in this box a plant of native pink oxalis, a
few plants of Viola Langloisii and a promiscuous collection of flowers, etc
indicating the commencement of Spring.
Yours very truly,
(Signed) E. C. WURZLOW.
