Shrub 1.5 m. tall. Flowers hanging; calyx lobes
spreading, greenish white with a little red at base,
rest of flower greenish, white.
Forest of Acer saccharum (some very large), Quercus
alba, Q. rubra, Carya ovata, Tilia americana. Ulmus
rubra, Ostrya virginiana, Populus grandidentata. Xantho-
xylum americanum, with a rich understory of Geranium
maculatum, Osmorhiza claytonii, O. longistylis, Viola
spp., Podophyllum peltatum, Botrychium virginianum.
Thalictrum dioicum, Orchis spectabilis, Caulophyllum
thalictroides, Polemonium reptans. On slopes near top
of ridge, with evidence of disturbance and probably
grazed until a few years ago.
