Anthurium cartilagineum (Desf.) Kunth
Terrestrial. Stem erect, 1.07 m long, 4.5 cm thick. Cataphyll
green, glaucous, margined red-violet. Petiole erect, mostly dirty
red-brown or olive suffused purplish, adax. concave-angular-chan-
neled; geniculum dull red-violet, flat adax. Blade reflexed, very
thick-leathery, dark green adax. with paler nerves which are dull
violet (esp. toward base) in new leaves; abax. glossy dull medium
green, nerves reddish toward base; basal lobes often drawn over
one another, blade thus very broadly funnelform. Peduncle maroon-
violet. Spathe glossy maroon adax., greenish abax., 12 x 2.3 cm.
Spadix dark violet, 9 x 0.7 cm, apices of pistils truncate, green-
ish, exserted; stipe greenish-violet.
