Perennial herb;; lower stem slightly anthocyanic; roots orange; leaves soft and downy, abaxial surface gray pubescence; stem square, eglandular hairs; flowers mostly gone over; in association with Erechtites hieraciifolius, Solidago sempervirens, Spartina patens, S. altemifolia, Euthamia graminifolia, Panicum virgatwn, Atriplex glabriuscula, Morelia caroliniensis, Daucus carota, and Erigeron canadensis var. pusillus.
