HYBRID: Oxalis oomiculata L. X 0* Dillenii Jacq. subsp
Dillenii
SLIDE
INSIDE
The oharacters partake of both taxa. The pollen (in
anthers not yet dehisced) ranges from above to below
normal size. No fruit is present, the flowers seemingly-
dropping off on this specimen. Killip states the plant
is showy and abundant on the lawns of the National Museum
and the Mall, Washington,D.C. All these characteristics
point directly to the plant being the above hybrid, which
I have seen before, but only beside greenhouses. There
are or were greenhouses near the Mall, and the hybridisa-
tion could have taken place then, or perhaps this time
the presence of a greenhouse was not necessary, both
species being abundant in the lawns nearby*
O.D.subsp. Dillenii is the correct name for the plant
currently passing in the U.S. as w0. stricta L.w, which
name properly belongs to another species.
