Floodplain of Kickapoo River, marshy area in old oxbow,
complete dominance of Phalaris arundinacea, with
scattered trees of Salix nigra, S. interior and shrubs of
Cephalanthus occidentalis, Cornus obliqua.
Tree, long fallen into marsh, ca. 15 m. tall, 30 cm. in
diameter, now with side branches erect, to 5 m. tall, 5 cm.
diameter and 9 years old. Twigs very brittle at the base.
Voucher for wood specimens at Kw, Lw, MADw,
MEXUw, RSAw, from one of the now upright side
branches. Pistillate; same individual collected under Nee
63617 on 7 June 2017 when inflorescences not noticed.
