with Forest Road 538, just N of North Fork of the Yellow
River.

Flat, marshy area with Typha latifolia, Alnus incana ssp.
rugosa, Salix petiolaris, S. discolor.
Shrub 3 m. tall, in a loose clump of stems leaning at base or
some stems fallen into swampy ground, to 3 cm. in diameter
and ca. 6 years old, above somewhat larger base before
branching within 20 cm. or less of base. Voucher for wood
specimens at Kw, Lw, MADw, MEXUw, RSAw. Pistillate;
catkins visited by small insects (2:15 P.M., sunny); see Nee
63447 for a staminate plant.
