Swampy woods with Abies balsamea, Picea mariana,
Alnus, Populus balsamifera, P. tremuloides, Salix bebbiana,
S. petiolaris.
Shrub in a tight clump, suffering from cutting at road edge,
but the species here becomes a treelet to 7 m. tall, with
mostly a single stem, to 18 cm. in diameter. Voucher for
wood specimen, Kw, Lw, MADw, MEXUw, RSAw, this
specimen from the largest stem, 4 m. tall, 3.4 cm. in
diameter, 7 years old. Staminate; see Nee 63547 for a
pistillate plant.
