Perennial aquatic herb; many dense floating matts; leaves mostly alternate; lobes of fruit rounded & smooth; flowers in axils of submerged leaves anthers 0.8 mm long; fruits 1.2 mm long, pink; growing with Potamogeton pulcher, Nymphaea odorata, Juncus pelocarpus, and Sparganium sp..
