Shrub; 18 dm tall; arils orange-red, outer capsule dark purple;
stems green with woody wings; associate species Acer rubrum,
Nyssa sylvatica, Lindera benzoin, Lonicera morrowii, Smilax
rotundifolia, Thelypteris noveboracensis and Osmundastrum
cinnamomeum.
*Very rare, first specimen observed in Montauk County Park.
