No. 7818, collected May 1, neat Keene Station in the Te-
b^chapi mountains, Kern county. Nuttall collected the type
from “bushy hills and thickets about Monterey,” and says the
“branches spinescent at the extremity,” and “leaves about half
I an inch long, lucid, when dry of a bright yellowish-brown be-
fjneath.” The leaves in our specimens are larger, although of
I variable size, green beneath. It cannot be referred to i?. ilici-\
Yfolia Kellogg, which also has leaves with the under side yellow,I
¡but ovate and acute, and apparently occurs in L^lke county only.,
