Causeway of old railroad grade through Kickapoo River
floodplain, partly grassy and open, partly becoming shaded
by shrubs and trees, with Juglans nigra, Acer saccharum,
Celtis occidentalis.
Shrub 4.5 m tall, 5 cm in diameter, the rings hard to count,
but perhaps 20 or even 30 years old; always growing in
clumps or patches, common along here in one area at base
of slope but mostly along edge of old railroad grade, 2
meters above floodplain. Voucher for wood specimens at
Kw, Lw, MADw, MEXUw, RSAw.
