The New York Botanical Garden Plants of U.S.A. Smilacaceae Smilax hispida Muhl. ex Torr. det. M. Nee, 2011 WISCONSIN, Richland Co., along flowing channel, about halfway between Gamer Lake and Lower Lake, Wisconsin River floodplain. T 8 N; R 2 W; WWk SWV* sect. 4 43°11 ’33”N, 90°37’35”W. alt. 167 m. Floodplain forest with Betula nigra, Acer saccharinum, Quercus bicolor. Most species with leaves beginning to senesce. Vine forming tangled masses to 6 m. or more in trees; upper leafy and fruiting parts unarmed, the lower stem with bristles and rigid straight spines. Fruit greenish black. Coll.: M.
