River floodplain.

Floodplain forest with Betula nigra, Acer saccharinum,
Quercus bicolor. Most species with leaves beginning to
senesce.
Vine forming tangled masses to 6 m. or more in trees; upper
leafy and fruiting parts unarmed, the lower stem with bristles
and rigid straight spines. Fruit greenish black.
