vs S3.5 PLANTS OF ILLINOIS, USA Smilax hispida Muhl. Smilacaceae Det.: S.R.Hill, (ILLS) 2004 ST. CLAIR COUNTY T. IS, R. 7W, NW1/4 NE1/4 NW1/4 SECT. 13 Freeburg Woods Natural Area, owned by L. Funk family. West side of Silver Creek, north-northeast of Larry Funk’s residence, Freeburg, entrance drive at 8949 Jefferson Road; Mascoutah 7.5’ quadrangle. Stream terrace, alluvial soil, mostly silt. Wet-mesic floodplain forest, essentially undisturbed and unlogged, with Acer saccharinum, Carya laciniosa, Celtis laevigata, Fraxinus spp., Quercus palustris, Ulmus americana, Aster simplex, Chasmanthium latifolium. Recently flooded under 2 meters of water. Fruit green, immature; occasional woody vine to 5 meters long in low trees. Steven R.
