Flat, very young woods, not swampy, just W of the Black
River, with Acer rubrum, Abies balsamea, Populus
tremuloides.
Tree 16 m. tall, 20 cm. in diameter, recently fallen, with
central erect trunk and horizontal branches, narrowly
conical crown. No intact cones but erect axes still present.
Young female strobili only in the uppermost 3 m. of the
crown, but the male strobili on larger side branches to
several meters lower. Voucher for wood specimens at Kw,
Lw, MADw, MEXUw, RSAw, the lower trunk with rot,
the wood specimen from 7 m. above the ground.
