Georeferencing Method
Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Version 2012. Georeferenced to the approximate location of São Joaquim, situated along Rio Javari along the Brazilian-Peruvian border. Referred to map, "Região Norte," provided by Ministério dos Transportes for location information for São Joaquim (http://www2.transportes.gov.br/bit/04-hidro/1-hidro/n-hidro.pdf). São Joaquim is located approximately adjacent to the confluence of Rio Javari Mirim and Rio Javari (mouth of Rio Javari Mirim). Using the reference map and Google Maps - Satellite View, located Rio Javari Mirim (synonymous with Rio Yavari Mirim). Used Canadensys Lat/Long Crosshairs to find the coordinates of the land adjacent to the mouth of Rio Javari Mirim, along the shore of Rio Javari within Brazil. Because São Joaquim does not have defined spatial boundaries, used Distance Measurement Tool (Google Maps) to measure from the selected coordinates to the geographic center of the nearest named place, Estirão do Equador, then halved this distance to approximate the linear extent of São Joaquim. Input coordinates, linear extent (9505.75 m.), and measurement error (.01 m.) into the MaNIS Georeferencing Calculator to find the uncertainty radius.
