Tillandsia usneoides (L.) L.

For the* record I will enclose a snapshot of Tlllandsia growing
on Ulimis Americana on the shore of the Tappan Zee, foot of Van Waart
Street, off Albany Post Road, just south of Tarrybown, In view of the
fact that only one tree exhibits this growth in this area I am con-
vinced that its origin was purely accidental and most likely via bird*
The age of the colonies is uncertain* I judge though that the
larger colonies had passed through at least one winter* I am not
familiar with the growth habits of Tillandsia in the South with respect
to the amount or nature of one season's growth* Next spring I will
check back on this Tappan Zee Station*
Last Sunday Mrs* Deuber and I discovered the Snuff Mill on your
Garden grounds and went to work with sketch pad and camera* It is a
beautiful spot*
