Stems solitary, 3 m long, 3 cm diameter. Sheaths densely, dark black spiny; petioles 6 cm long;
rachises 160 cm long; pinnae 42 per side of rachis, regularly arranged and spreading in one
plane, with 3 rows of spines adaxially, without spines below; cirrus with regularly arranged
groups of spines. Sterile plants.
