Stems solitary, 20 m long, 3 cm diameter. Sheaths densely covered with fine, dense, needle-like
spines; petioles 21-27 cm long; rachises 76 cm long; pinnae 8 per side of rachis, more or less
regularly arranged. Inflorescences staminate, 134 cm long, erect, completely without spines,
branched to 3 orders; partial inflorescences subtented by tubular, slightly swollen bracts with
contracted bases.
