NEW YORK BOTANICAL GARDEN PALMS OF SULAWESI Indonesia. Sulawesi Selatan: East Luwu Regency, road from Pendolo to Wutu, undisturbed forest on steep slope, 02°14.137’S, 120°47.063’E, 1250 m elevation. 24 November 2017. Calamus sp. Stems clustered, forming small clumps, 15 m long, 2.2 cm diameter. Sheaths green, densely covered with upward-pointing, reddish-brown spines, these denser at sheath apex and on ocrea margins; knees spiny; petioles 27 cm long; rachises 54 cm long; pinnae 6-9 per side of rachis, most arranged in divergent pairs or threes, thick and leathery, without spinules on veins, with vestigial spinules abaxially; cirri spines irregular, the cirri relatively short. Inflorescences pistillate, 70 cm long; rachis bracts palustris-like’; rachillae terminating in a modified, spine-like bracteole; pistillate flowers paired; fruits ellipsoid, whitish. A.
