NEW YORK BOTANICAL GARDEN PALMS OF SULAWESI Indonesia. Sulawesi Tengah: road between Tolitoli and Tinobagan, just before Kinapasan Village, disturbed area near road, 00°49.165’N, 120°46.652’E, 66 m elevation. 29 October 2017. Calamus sp. Stems 6 m long, 3 cm diameter. Sheaths green with upward-pointing, black spines, those at sheath apex markedly longer (apparently a pair of longer spines); knees almost absent; petioles 33 cm long; rachises 64 cm long; pinnae 8-9 per side, elliptic, not spinulose on veins, with numerous vestigial spinules abaxially, in groups (pairs) and spreading in different planes; the apical ones not reduced; cirri with more or less irregular spines but on some leaves appearing regular. Inflorescences staminate, 93 cm long; rachis bracts tubular but almost ‘palustris-like’. A. Henderson, Moh.
