Georeferencing Method
Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Version 2012. Georeferenced to the summit of "Pico da Bandeira" in the Caparaó mountain range / National Park, in Mun. Alegre, Espírito Santo. Using Google Maps - Terrain View, located "Pico da Bandeira". Using Google Maps - What's Here tool found coordinates for the approximate geographic center of the summit. Because it is reasonably likely that the collector made this collection not just right at the summit but somewhere alongside the trail between the summit and the trailhead, used Google Maps - Measure Distance tool to find the linear extent by measuring from the chosen coordinates at the summit of Pico da Bandeira to the farthest extent of the trail leading to the summit (at the trailhead/parking lot: -20.409915, -41.836840). Input linear extent (4970.0 m), coordinate precision (0.00001 degrees), datum (WGS82), and measurement error (0.25 m) into the MaNIS Georeferencing Calculator to find the uncertainty radius (according to the Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Named Place: Defined area).
