Dear Dr, Small
I have Just been planting in my
garden some plants of Arlsema that might interest
you* I suppose they are acuminata, but they are
very large. The leaves are three-parted and deep
green in color; the stalks mostly green, but some»';
are brown. The blade of the spathe is long-
acuminate. Measurements of one plafet are as
follows; Diameter of eorm 6cm*, height of stalk
7*3 dm., length of petiole 3»2 dm*, length of
leaf segment 3 dm. There are thousands of them
on an island in Hallfs river, near Homosassa Spring.

[its natural habitat. It is surely ludovlclana.
This suggests as another interesting problem the	i
[relationships of apoda, Eatonl and this species. #
I am planning to start northward Immediately aftrr
the meeting of the Florida Academy of Sciences,
probably on the 11th or 12th. That should brii®$
me to New York about the 16th if there are no
unexpected delays. I don't suppose you ever tUnk
of Botany on Sunday, so if I do not make it in
time to call at the Garden on Saturday I will plan
for Monday e verything, of course, subject to your
convenience.
