PLANTS OF CALIFOENIA DISTRIBUTED BY THE HERBARIUM OP THE UNIVERSITY OP CALIFORNIA, BERKELEY. 224. Corydalis Caseana Gray. Syn. Corydalis Bidwelliae Wats. Butte Creek, northern Butte County, in the Transition Zone of the Sierra Nevada at 1500 m. altitude. Growing with roots in water along the margin of Butte Creek where shaded by Alnus tenuifolia, Comus pubescens, and Populus trichocarpa, associated with Senecio triangularis and Lilium parvum. Petals white, suffused with wine-red, the inner petals tipped with wine-red; spur either straight or slightly curved. C. Bid- welliae was probably based on a less hydrophytic form, since at least in some cases (H.M.H. 9308) it grows in soil that is only moist. Its type locality is given as “above Chico,” which would locate it not far from the station where this set (no. 9796) was gathered. The plants with narrow leaf-segments and whieh might therefore be taken for C. Bidwelliae, grew where exposed to the sunlight, while those with broader segments grew where shaded by shrubs. Collected by H. M. Hall (no. 9796), July 28, 1914. 03703892
