GUYANA. Cuyuni-Mazaruni. Cara Creek, along the banks and on small
islands in creek, to 5°32'50.3"N, 60°53'47.9"W and 506 m elevation
(south of Camp 4); tributary of Kako River, near border with Venezuela.
543 m. 5°32'43"N 60°54'9.8"W. Islands formed from gravel bars, prone
to scouring, rich in herbs and shrubs. Rock substrate orpink sandstone
and red chert. Tree to 8m. Leaves coriaceous. Inflorescence terminal and
axillary, paniculate. Four lobes of calyx green-yellow, magenta at base;
5th calyx lobe enlarged, magenta, green-yellow along margin. Single
petal white with yellow/magenta nectar guides. Silica sample.
