TEXAS. MAVERICK CO.: 7.7 miles n.w. of Que-
mado. In arid desert, its presence unrelated
to agriculture; doubtless native. Some plants
evidently persistenfe (?), e.g. sending up
axillary shoots from basal leaves, the root
of these thickened and semi-ligneous. Flowers
yellow, on one plant distinctly bronze; filaments
deep red; mostly in bud, fl. and early iram. fr.
