Dear Dr . Small:
Under seperate cover I am sending you’ a specimen of
Trilluim, which I believe to be T. declinatuin (Gray) Gleason.
As I can find no record of this species having been reported from
Pennsylvania, I would be pleased to have you identify the specimen.
The specimen is from a colony which I discovered on April
19th on a wooded hillside on the Susquehanna river, in Hallam
Township, York County, Pennsylvania, about five miles west of
Wrightsville,. York County, Pa. The colony covers an area of at
least five acres.
My reasons for thinking it is not T. erectum L. are
It is not ill-scented.
The flowers are white, not a 'red one in the ^entire colony^
The ovary is not purple, being white or pinkish.
.The filaments are less than half as long as the anthers.
The sepals and petals are obionj^vlanceolate.
If the specimen is T. declinatiim, will you kindly inform
me if it,Jias been reported from Pennsylvania?
Yours very truly
