Dear Doctor Small5
Thank you for your letter of December 20th.
I expected to see you in Sebring, but when the ’’freeze" began I
hurried home to try to save some of my tropical plants*
That Volusia County Ilysanthes was in poor condition and I
collected little. All X have is mounted, butl am mailing you the
»sheet today* Will you please return It, also the Solldago and
I other specimen in the ,package. The latter seems to be a
I but the leaves are not "nearly linear or narrowly linear
Where the Solidago grew there Was much limestone,
the rocks Ayenla euphras1aefolia was abundant. The chief grass
there was Bouteloua hirsuta.
1 have no specimen of the plant I^gjjessed might be a
Card amine. growing in Weekiwachee Spring. I saw it from the
glass-bottomed boat* It was growing 1$ masses on underwater
rocks and was light green in color.
In several places in Hernazido County X saw Pycnothymus
rlgldus that had absolutely no odorl^"
The freeze did much damage here. Th& astonishing thing is
the hardiness of things supposed to be tender. My young
Swietenia Mahftgonl, a small Ichthyomethia pisclpula, and
Artabotrys odo«atlsslma are not harmed at all.
I shall be very glad to .know the correct names
sent you, especially the Ilysanthes tjaat you asked to see*
Stamps enclosed for return of sg^cimens.
Sincerely,
Hygrophila brasiliensis (Sprengel) Lindau
