Highway 212, ca. 1/4 mi. NY of Clay Butte Lookout. Elevation 9800 ft. Alpine grassland, E-facing cold pocket, 45% slope. Soil unstable, heavy clay and gravel, 60% bare ground, 10% exposed rock. With dominants: Arnica mollis, Lupinus, Aster alpigenus, Senecio crassulus, also with Carex haydeniana, Arenaria congesta, Androsace septentrionalis, Agropyron caninum, Agoseris slauca, Achillea, Poa alpina, P. epilis. Entire plant strongly reddish. Distribution: NY 03592496
