Loasaceae Mentzelia congesta Torrey & A.Gray Vicinity of PACIFICO MOUNTAIN: descending northerly ridge with Tie Canyon on the W, an upper tributary of Santiago Canyon on the E; ca 2070 m NW of Pac. Mtn's 7124-foot summit. Padfico Mountain USGS 7.5' quad; T4N R11W, SW/4 NE/4 section 32; elevation ca. 6440 feet. Coniferous forest with scattered chaparral elements, on decomposed granite. Annual, fairly gracile, scattered locally; flowering bracts white with only a green margin; petals small (3-4 mm long), golden-yellow with orange base, apices attenuate to mucronate; fruit barrel-shaped.
