Violaceae Viola purpurea Kellogg ssp. mohavensis (Baker & Clausen) Clausen GRASS MOUNTAIN: gradual, grassy slope of easterly exposure, ca 70 m ENE of the summit. Lake Hughes 7.5' USGS Quadrangle; T6N R14W, NW/4 NW/4 NW/4 SW/4 NW/4 section 6 (straddling the range line into R15W, which is not mapped to sections). Elevation ca 4565 feet. Somewhat disturbed grassland invaded by Bromus diandrus, B. tectorum, B. hordeaceus, and other weeds, on decomposed granite. At the grassland margin on the N is chaparral; at the margin on the E is chaparral recovering from a bum. Herbaceous perennial, scattered in grassland. Corolla yellow, 1-2.5 cm broad; lower petal with brownish radiating lines in proximal half ; upper two petals brownish-purple abaxially. Timothy S. Ross 7651 Steve Boyd 4 May 1994
