Mesic forest with mix of floodplain forest and upland elements, with Fraxinus spp., Ulmus sp., Sanicula spp., Circaea, Trillium, Osmorhiza, Laportea, Impatiens, Acer saccharum, Tilia. Occasional perennial, leaf downy pubescent, glaucous beneath, fruit green, pendulous; rhizome thick, fleshy, green or cream-white depending on depth-exposure. Steven R.
