    Ecuador. Tungurahua. Found wild in the valley of the Pastaza River just above the junction of the Río Verde.

    On an almost perpendicular slope. In moist black loam.

  • Description

    Only one plant seen.Culm diffuse. Rhizome rampant, epigeous and hypogeous, slender, with all nodes gemmiferous. Culms 10 m. long and 1.3 cm. in diameter, weak, climbing, with long, slender, pendulous or climbing tips. Internodes glabrous, very asperous, hard. Culm leaf deciduous. Branches as in the genus, the principal ones in the middle of the culm very strongly developed and often equalling the main culmin size and vigor. Long prophylls of the culm buds and sulcus running the full length of each inetrnode. Known locally as "suro embra" or "guarmi suro.". Phenology of specimen: Flower.
