Gray Chickasaw County: New Hampton Township T95N R12W Section 5 N2NE4NW4SW4 An approximately 4 acre fen is located about 1.75 miles northeast of the intersection of U.S. Highway 63 and State Highway 24 in New Hampton. It is southwest of the East Fork of the Wapsipinicon River. The county soil survey maps the fen as Palms muck, 1 to 4 percent slopes (221B), a Terric Medisaprist. Palms muck formed in 16 to 50 inches of organic material and the underlying loamy mineral material. The fen is on the Iowan Surface. Drvopteris cristata is infrequent in the shade of an Alnus ruaosa grove in the south-central portion of the fen. The collection is growing at the base of a clump of Alnus ruaosa. Drvopteris cristata is associated with Cirsium muticum. Impatiens capensis. Parthenocissus auinauefolia. Saxifraaa pensvlvanica and Urtica dioica. Mark J.
