Wheeler of Berlin, Mass., a specimen that proves to i be good B. simplex Hitch. The specimen represents Milde’s “forvta ! incisa ” and was found growing with a few others in a sandy plain. This is the first instance of genuine specimens of this rare fern feeing found in Massachusetts since Dr. Torrey’s Deerfield specimen—date unknown—many years ago, and its rediscovery now will give to our botanists an additional stimulus to exert themselves still further ini the search for additional stations. Since I sent the above-1 have personally verified the rediscovery, i There were in all about 125 plants growing on an exposed sandy plain, where the spores may have been blown from some of the higher I hilly regions of the surrounding country. The specimens were all I small, and it would seem as if the station couid not have been there a very long time, probably, allowing three years growth from spores, and two for the largest form above ground, not, more than five of six years, or there would have been some more fully developed plants. I am now desirous of obtaining southern and western forms of j all of our Botrychia and will be very grateful to any one who will I favor me with specimens. . ' If I can make any return it will afford me much pleasure to do ! SO^____bt3-3Y. / ffffr. Geo. E. Davenport. 03526070 Botrychium simplex E. Hitchc. Det.: W. H.
