Distribution
to many other regions here-abouts. A rhododendron of the minus- caroliniana group grows there but we saw nothing else of any interest whatever. However, our investigation was necessarily rather sketchy and proves nothing, aside from the A. Bradlevi. which was well worth the trip« There are numerous places along our line of march that appeared to be good hunting-groung for spring blooming herbaceous plants and I will be interested in investigating them next spring« From Benn Knob the road winds through the South Mountains north to Morganton but, after leaving the ’'Knob” the country is uninteresting botanically* From what we saw of the area a study pretty well concentrated along the Gilead Ridge- High Rock- Berm Knob region would probably develop more "pay dirt" than any of the rest of it. If you ever go into that country start with your gas tank full for therebis hardly a habitation, much less a fil- ling station, from Hilliard to within a short distance of Morgan- ton« Sincerely yours NEW YORK BOTANICAL GARDEN 03518971 03518971 HERBARIUM OF THE NEW YORK BOTANICAL GARDEN /tZ*A7+- j^“^o fd&ji/L . ¿S~ $3$^~
