    Perennial succulent dwarf shrub to scraggly climber in bushes, 20-100 cm high, stems dark coloured. Leaves opposite, glaucous, covered by translucent sheath covering leaf pair, giving the appearance of a single, conical leaf. Leaf bases burgundy. Cap.
