03511135 Harvard University, Gray Herbarium (GH) PLANTS OF LOUISIANA Equisetum hyemale L. EQUISETACEAE Stems to 6ft tall, locally abundant, forming a nearly pure colony about 20ft in diameter. At the edge of a swamp forest in damp silty clay-loam (Convent soils; coarse-silty, mixed, superactive, nonacid, thermic Fluvaquentic Endoaquepts). Growing with Acer negundo, Ambrosia trifida, Ampelopsis arborea, Andropogon glomeratus, Campsis radicans, Celtis laevigata, Comus foemina, Desmodium perplexum, Elephantopus carolinianus, Eupatorium coelestinum, Fraxinus pensylvanica, Platanus occidentalis, Quercus laurifolia, Q. nigra, Rubus trivialis, Sapium sebiferum, Smilax rotundifolia (?), Solanum carolinianum, Solidago altissima, Spilanthes americana (?), Taxodium distichum, & Toxicodendron radicans. Along the E side of a road below an artificial levee, & at the intersection with a gas line right-of- way, to the E side of the Atchafalaya River, about 0.25mi N of the Rt. 190 bridge.
