03506467 Ada Hayden Herbarium Iowa State University Flora of Iowa Selaqinella rupestris (L.) Spring Muscatine County: T78N R2W Section 18 N2 SW4 SW4 Wiese Slough Wildlife Management Area, owned by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources. 15+ acre sand prairie, part of which may be a savannah (open-grown Quercus macrocarpa occur in parts of the prairie). Soil is Alluvial land, fine silty material over sandy material, 0 to 2 percent slopes (315). Prairie is about 0.5 mile north of the Cedar River. DNR personnel tried to burn the prairie in 1974, but there was insufficient litter to carry a fire. 1000+ plants in the north end of the sand prairie. Some plants formed rings, where the center was dead and the perimeter was alive. With Achillea millefolium, Asclepias verticillata. Cassia fasciculata. Koeleria cristata.
