Secondary forest of Fraxinus americana, Ostrya virginiana, Betula alleghaniensis on N-facing slope along top of hill, with many sandstone outcrops. Forming extensive patches, growing up through the snow, from long rhizomes, with no. 59534 L. obscurum but much more common; both species releasing spores when strobili touched (late afternoon, calm).
