Waterman Canyon, San Bernardino National Forest, San Bernardino Mountains; vicinity of California Route 18 north of San Bernardino, east side of Old Waterman Canyon Road, west to southwest-facing slope. Vicinity of bridge over stream. Elevation about 2530 feet. Canyon, gneissic metamorphic rock, pockets of humus and sandy soil. Chaparral, shrubland on dry slopes, transition to mesic canyon forest. Dominants in chaparral: Eriogonum fasciculatum, Ceanothus spp., Phacelia spp., Eriodictyum trichocalyx. Dominants in mesic areas: Acer macrophyllum, Juglans californica, Alnus, Salix, Vitis.
