    Perennial graminoid restio, 30-40 up to 750 cm, in small tufts, a dune pioneer. Dark varigated pattern on stem. Leaves slightly wavy. Inflorescence terminal, 7 mm long. Roots tough, red-brown, up to 50 cm long, 2-3 mm in diam. Common, native.
