Giant population in fenced ODOT overflow parking [including movie companies] and
storage lot bounded by 1-5 on W, S. E. Salmon St. on S, Water Ave. onE, and Tailor St.
on N, and along S side S. E. Taylor -53 - 67 paces (145-185’) W of Water Ave. justE of
small parking space at Wend of Taylor St. Plants seen on NW side in patches up to
-20 paces (60’) S of Taylor St. and ~75 paces (210’) W of Water Ave.; onE side at -21
paces (60’) S of Taylor St. irregularly S almost to the Salmon St. fence, then from barely
W of the Water Ave. fence to ~76 paces (210’) W of Water Ave. at the locked gate; also
in numerous patches in SE part of lot diagonally from said locked gate on SW,
northeasterly, W of large Am macrophyllm to site W of Water Ave. ~21 paces (60’) S
of Taylor St. Note: the distance from Salmon St. to Taylor St. I counted to be 70 paces
(-190’) and the distance from Water Ave. to the E edge of 1-5 is 106 paces (-290’).
Moss covered areas of asphalt and concrete (sidewalk), ocassionally thin, gritty soil as
along Taylor St. sidewalk, in at least nine moss species; greenish to reddish or
brownish, ± common, sometimes a local dominant and densely clumped, the thousands
of reddish plants seeming to color the greenish mosses, occasionally solitary; plants \
-15 cm, usually 2-10 cm tall and often branched; lvs+oblong-ovate in the smaller
plants and unlobed to three lobed in the larger plants. Associates: (mosses identified
John Christy June 2010) - Brachythecium albicans, Bryum argentem, Ceratodon
purpureus, Didymodon vinealis, Grimmia pulvinata, Pseudoscleropodium purum,
Rosulabryum capillare, Scleropodium cespitans, Syntrichia ruralis, and Vulpia sp.
Bromus rigidus, Hordeum murinum, Poa annua, Draba vema, Cardantine oligosjc
Senecio vulgaris, Stellaria media, Veronica arvensis, Cerastium glomeratum, C.
semidecandrium (5547), Acer mcrophyllum, Arabidopsis thalliana, Daucus car
Epilobiunt sp., Hypochaeris radicata, Plantago lanceolata, Sonchus oleracm,
Trifolium dubium, Veronica arvensis', elev. ~30’. Label data based on collectioi
observations from April 8,2008 - June 4,2009.
