Apiaceae Heracleum lanatum Michx.
det.M. Nee, 2010
WISCONSIN, Richland Co., Wisconsin, Lower Wisconsin
State Riverway land, above and N of Hwy. 60,4 miles NE
of Boscobel.
T 8 N; R 2 W; SW% SW% sect 6.
43°11’41”N, 90°39’49”W. alt. 235 m.
Ungrazed woods of Acer saccharum, Fraxinus americana,
Juglans nigra, along old dirt farm road between the parking
area along Hwy. 60 and the ridgetop. Patch of several
plants, to 1.8 m. tall, rankly aromatic. In young stage and
inflorescences not quite yet in anthesis. These plants were at
first thought to be an introduced species different from H.
lanatum; they are much more robust and further developed
than the numerous ones seen in the southern Richland
County region at this time in the more usual habitat of
unshaded areas along low roadsides, streambanks, and
marshy areas, where the plants are < 0.4 m. tall and much
less close to flowering.
